Rebates, grid connection rules and compliance requirements are set state by state, not nationally. Pick yours for the figures and local team details that actually apply to you.
Our home state and installer base
Most of our installers live within an hour of the jobs they do. If your bill has crept past $1,000 a quarter with a pool or ducted air conditioning running most of the year, this is the team that will look at it first.
Hunter region and surrounds
We install and support systems across Newcastle and the Hunter region, with the same accredited team returning for monitoring, servicing and warranty work for the life of the system.
We're expanding carefully rather than quickly. A new state is added only once we have an accredited local team already in place there.
Solar rules aren't set nationally. Your state decides your rebates, your grid connection process, and who turns up if something needs attention in year ten.
STC certificates apply nationally, but battery incentives, grid connection rules and network operator requirements change from state to state. Your state page shows the figures that actually apply.
The people who design and install your system are based in your state. If something needs a look in year five, it's the same team on your file, not a call centre reading from a script.
Permits, inspection standards and network operator sign-off vary by state. Working locally means the paperwork is handled by people who deal with your council and your distributor every week.
Source Energy Group installs and supports solar and battery systems across Queensland and New South Wales, with our own SAA-accredited crew handling every job from the first energy audit through to the final handover. This covers homes in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Townsville, Newcastle and the wider Hunter region, and in every case the people who design your system are the same people who install it, and the same people you'll call if anything needs attention in year five or year fifteen.
Most solar quotes are handed off to a network of subcontractors once the sale is made. That arrangement works fine until something goes wrong, at which point homeowners are often left chasing a company that has no record of who actually did the work. We built Source Energy Group around the opposite model. Every installer on our team is SAA-accredited and employed directly, not subcontracted, which means the crew that designs your system based on your roof, your usage and your financial goals is the same crew that shows up on install day, and the same crew that answers the phone years later.
Queensland is our home state and where most of our installers are based, which means shorter lead times and a team that already knows the local grid connection process for Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Townsville and the Sunshine Coast. Queensland also has some of the highest average power bills in the country, particularly for homes running a pool or ducted air conditioning through summer, which is where we tend to see the fastest payback periods on a correctly sized system.
Our New South Wales operation is centred on Newcastle and the Hunter region. The rebate structure, network operator requirements and council permit process differ from Queensland's, so our New South Wales team works to the specific rules that apply in that state rather than applying a one-size answer across the business. If you're in the Hunter region and comparing quotes, ask any installer for their SAA accreditation number and how long they've been trading locally. Ours is listed on every page of this site because we'd rather you check it than take our word for it.
Small-scale Technology Certificates, commonly known as STCs, apply nationally and make up the bulk of most solar rebates regardless of state. Battery incentives are a different story. Programs such as the Cheaper Home Batteries Program change the numbers depending on system size and your state's specific rules, which is why the figures on our Queensland and New South Wales pages differ from each other and from generic solar calculators found elsewhere online. Our how it works page walks through the full rebate and compliance process step by step.
We're occasionally asked when we'll add Victoria, South Australia or other states. The honest answer is that we won't enter a new state until we have an accredited local team already in place there, for the same reason we don't outsource installs in the states we already cover. If you'd like to be notified when we expand to your area, get in touch through our contact page and we'll let you know.
Step 1 is a free, no-obligation energy audit. We review your actual bills and tell you exactly what’s possible — including if solar won't deliver the return you need. We'll contact you within 1 business day.
